After the trials and tribulations of the past blogging week, here’s something to cheer us up.
This very old black and white clip from Beyond the Fringe always does it for me…
Enjoy!
That’s hilarious, Jenny! Glad things are in working order for you.
Glad it made you laugh, Jill. I was very young when I first watched this sketch with my Dad – he was a great advocate of ‘finding the funny.’ Over the years it has appeared on various TV comedy favourite shows and it still makes me laugh out loud.
Each day we need to make a point of laughing out loud. Such a great memory you have with your dad…that’s nice!
Thanks, I needed that. I saw Beyond the Fringe in the early sixties in London in my late teens. It has always been one of my favourite reviews. I also love the sketch I Wanted To be A Judge. At least I thinks that was what it was called.
Glad you are back and posting again and hope the gremlins have gone.
I found another person who often comments on my blog had suddenly been spammed today.
I think we may well have gotten rid of the gremlins…fingers crossed!
So pleased I’ve brightened your day and exceedingly envious that you’ve actually seen a Fringe performance: respect!
Always amused by Pete and Dud 🙂
They’re great, aren’t they? Pre-cursors to the Python era – comedy gold!
Jenny,
This is my 3rd and final try to leave a comment on this post. I’ll wait until another time and post to try again. Sorry.
Marylin – I’m receiving you! I don’t know what happened there – I think I am able to leave comments elsewhere now – please don’t say people are having trouble posting to me now…:(
Thank you Jenny, my family has always liked this kind of humor. In fact, several members go around quoting skits like this. And no family outing is complete without at least one of Monty Pythons skits being tossed about during a trip.
Ooh I love your family, Holly – we do things like that. Must be very boring for anyone listening in who’s never heard of Python. (Is that possible?)
First time I’ve seen that Jenny. That must actually have been a physically demanding role for Dud, as well as being very funny.
That’s true. They were so funny together – I never thought they were as good when they went in different directions.
That’s new to me. Wicked funny!
These two are a comedy legend here, as a double act. Others since have performed their sketches but never as well, in my opinion. I read somewhere that Peter Cook wrote this particular sketch when he was only eighteen.
I didn’t realize how well known the two were. I am familiar with some of their stuff. My favourite one:
I am mostly familiar with Moore for his work in film. Both him and Cook left too early…
Yes, they definitely did. I love this too – especially as they try not to laugh at each other.
Dudley Moore was also an accomplished classical pianist. In fact, he studied music at Oxford which was where he met Alan Bennett (another fave of mine!), who then introduced him to Peter Cook.
Glad you’re out of the spam pan – welcome back! Thanks for sharing Pete & Dud – classic 🙂
Yes, thank goodness. Glad you like Pete and Dud. Seems we are not alone!
Yep – the joy of the internet – when you’re not a spam victim!
Fabulous! 🙂
Aha – another fan from across the pond…!
Okay, trying again, Jenny. Don’t know what happened to my other comments on this (except the 3rd one that said nothing but came through fine, of course!)
I loved the Pete and Dud, and wanted to thank you for sharing it. Your posts are a happy blend of information and humor!
Thanks, Marylin – I’m astonished actually, that Pete and Dud have such a universal appeal – I thought they might be too ‘British!’ Having said that, I can remember many happy evenings watching Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-in as well as Cheers and Mash, so humour, like good wine, travels!
I enjoy laughing, this was quite a great moment in historic, hysterical humor. I enjoy Dudley Moore, now appreciate this charming duo. Still looking around in your posts…
This old sketch never fails to make me laugh, even though I know it virtually word for word!
